Leapfrog LeapBand – Learning in Motion

So Leapfrog, purveyors of top-notch tablet style edutainment tablets, have stuck their own piece of kit into the burgeoning “activity band” category.
Rather than those multiple pieces of kit (jawbone, misfit,Fuel, pulse and many more) this one is most certainly for the nippers, not that some bigger kids might prefer the fun distractions this one might offer.
This Leapband wearable is the first wearable physical activity tracker designed just for children, it encourages active play and promotes healthy habits and all whilst nurturing their very own personalised virtual pet.
The LeapBand activity tracker holds 50 different activities and challenges, it tracks kids physical movements so the more “up-and-about” the child is, the more points they earn with their virtual pet. Better still, the points they earn unlock extra games, challenges, levels of play and virtual rewards for their on-screen pet.
Inside the LeapBand is lots of top-tech like an accelerometer, high-resolution colour screen, rechargeable battery and water-resistant design – it also doubles up as both a digital and analogue watch.
There is more fun to be had from the downloadable companion app called Petathlon, this is where kids can compete as their virtual pet in six mini-games like archery, surfing and bobsledding to win extras including medals and new tracksuits for their virtual pet. The Petathlon app is available for download to a child’s LeapPad Ultra, iOS or Android smartphone or tablet.
Grab one for just £29.99 in a four different hues, see www.leapfrog.com/leapband.
