Brilliance of board games celebrated with a trio of awards

Heads are likely pounding today post the celebrations at the HQ of Pegasus Spiel were awarded the most prestigious “Spiel des Jahres 2017- Game of the year that is, quite an achievement, huge congratulations. The game of Kingdomino takes the classic elements of dominoes, puts beautiful countryside themed art onto the play tiles and the aim is to get about and build kingdoms.

The jury said of the game “Kingdomino lifts the time-honoured principle of dominoes to a new level – without losing any of the sleek elegance of its predecessor.”

The gameplay is easily explained: every round, each player receives one tile and adds it to his or her kingdom. Connecting landscapes of the same type depicting at least one crown, score points.

The jury also added: “the dual mechanics of planning the far-reaching lands surrounding the castle and the clever method of selecting tiles fit together extraordinarily well, they are expertly reduced to their essential components.”

Other winners at the awards were Ice Cool for best children’s game, a penguin flipping fish catching game and the EXIT games from Thames & Kosmos for experts’ game of the year. Instead of visiting an actual escape room bag on of these boxes to solve riddles and test you and team mates grey matter, trying to escape before time runs out.

All worthy winners.
